susanmgallego@gmail.com Austin TX US Social Worker Divorced 1 Jesse Villegas still waiting MSU- BA UTAustin-MSSW
Hi there - I am thrilled to be coming back to GPW for our reunion.  I have been living in Austin, TX for the past 27 yrs. and I love Austin and being a, "Texan," but Michigan is where it all started.

I have one son, Bernardo, who is absolutely terrific.  He's now 30 yrs. old and married to a wonderful gal.  They are both at Penn State working as entomologists. I am also blessed to have raised 3 step children who I love very much.  I got my Master's in social work at 35 and have had the honor of working with people with HIV/AIDS and those at risk for over 20 yrs. For the last 4 yrs. I've been working for the State of Texas as a program coordinator for all the state funded HIV and Substance Abuse programs and with our border substance abuse prevention programs.  I love my job and also manage to do consulting work on the side as a trainer and facilitator.

Over the years I've been able to travel a bit and was able to go back to Argentina a few times--this is where I spent my early childhood. I have also had the opportunity to train community health workers in Mozambique, Africa, Puerto Rico and Mexico on HIV/AIDS, and I lived and worked in downtown San Francisco for a couple of years after my son was grown and left home.

I still remain close to my, "Swedish Sister,"Eva Bergstrand, who was our exchange student in my junior year at GPN. She and I have visited each other a number of times over the years.

A big thanks to the reunion committee who worked so hard to find us and develop a great reunion event for all of us.

It has been a long time for sure.  After graduation I atended Lawrence Tech and obtained a BSEE. I worked at Pointe Electronics as a bench tech and the Shop Manager.  Who remembers Pointe?  I was fortunate to be offerred a job at then Detroit Edison, now DTE Energy, in the Telecommunications Dept.  I spent 36.5 years in Telecom rising to the Principal Engineer responsible for a vast array of voice systems and fiber optic network.  It was a good job from which I have now retired.

I met my wife Donna in 1983 and we were married for about 31 years.  We have one child a daughter, who is studying in the vet sciences.  She was a gazelle to my plodding plowhorse.  She was a very caring and loving person.  She loved her animals and to that end we have four dogs.  Too many now but they are a part of the family.  Donna took ill and passed from us in December 2014.  It has been a bit of a struggle for myself and our daughter as we put a new normal into practice.

Always wanting to be in a rural envirnoment I have ended up outside Richmond, MI and with retirement I am thinking about one more move a little further up into Michigan.  We shall see what the good Lord has in mind moving forward.

In browsing through the list I saw so many names that brought back memories of  that time.  I hope all are doing well and look forward to seeing you in Sept.

Looking forward to seeing my old classmates at this year's reunion.

badgerdad@wi.rr.com Brookfield WI US Field Agent www.linkedin.com/in/vicjohnson Married 3 Barb BS and MS Mathematics, Michigan State
Looking forward to seeing my GPN classmates at the reunion!

Following GPN, I attended Michigan State University on a four-year Evans Scholarship earned as a caddie at Lochmoor Club.   My BS amd MS degrees were in Mathematics.

My professional career has always touched on the insurance industry in some way, ranging from pricing and product development to consulting and processs reengineering, and now sales.  Protecting and advising families is very fulfilling.

Barb and I have been married for 30 years and we have three sons.  Barb is a RN and provides care for the retired Jesuits at Marquette University.  The oldest son, Vic Jr., lives in Taiwan where he teaches English and studies Mandarin Chinese.  He graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Madison where my youngest son, Aaron, is now a senior.  My middle son Doug is mentally ill and lives in a nearby group home.  Doug  enjoys hiking and outdoor activies with the family.

My hobby is home brewing.  Living in Milwaukee, brewing beer comes as second nature (as well as consuming it, moderately, of course).  In retrospect, I really would have enjoyed opening my own brewpub and sharing my wares!  Some day...

Vic

pamalessandro@comcast.net Lake Orion MI US Corporate Recruiter kellyservices.com Married 4 John Alessandro 2 Michigan State University
Hello class of ’71. I can’t believe that it’s been 40 years. Wow, how the time has flown. After graduating from North, I attended MSU, (Go Spartans) and received a degree in Social Work. Got married and went to work for a Computer Sales and leasing company as a Product Manager. (Never did use my Social Work degree.) Worked there for 5 years and then decided to open my own company offering computer services for the automotive and aerospace industry. During this time I also had two boys, Daniel and Kevin. After 16 years, I sold the company and went into the recruiting and consulting field. Since 2002 I have been working for Kelly Services at their World Headquarters in Troy as a Corporate Recruiter. I hire for internal corporate management positions for HQ as well as locations all across the country. On the personal front, I divorced in 1996 and remarried in 1999 to John.  We are the “Brady Bunch” as we combined two families and now have four children. Daniel, 29 (also a Spartan), is married and is the Director of Sales and Marketing for a global internet security firm. His wife Annie, (another Spartan) is an Electrophysiologist at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Ann Arbor. Chase, 27 has a catering business. Vanessa, 25 recently graduated with a degree in Interior Design and moved to Mammoth, CA to work for Mammoth Resort. Kevin, 24 graduated from Northwestern University and now lives in LA working for UCLA.
I have been very blessed with a great life, a wonderful husband, four terrific children, a nice home out in the country, and lots of friends both old and new. This reunion is a great opportunity to reconnect with lost, but not forgotten, “old” friends.
For the past year we on the Reunion Committee have had a lot of fun planning this event. We know that we had the best class ever to graduate from GPN and hope to see many of you again. If you cannot make it, please still fill out the Classmate Profile so that we can see what you have been up to these last 40 years.  And please let us know if you will be available to help us out with our 50th reunion.

2016 UPDATE -
My life continues to be wonderful.  I still live out in the country on 3 acres of land.  Been married to the man of my dreams for 17 years.   I have four terrific kids and two beautiful granddaughters.  I am still working at Kelly Services.  (Maybe by the time of our 50th I’ll be retired.  But as long as I’m having fun, I’ll hang in there.)

It’s been a great year working with this incredible Reunion Committee.  (Thank you Bob, Nancy, Carol, Don, Judy, Roger and Jack.) We had an awesome 45th reunion party.  It was so nice reconnecting with many of you.  For those who could not attend, please come to our 50th.  I’m sure that it will be equally spectacular.

Thanks to some generous donations from classmates, we are able to keep the website live for the next 5 years, so please continue to check back for updates.

nancy@littlechickadee.com Grosse Pointe Woods MI Business owner www.LittleChickadee.com Married 3 Chuck Burk 2 B.A. University of Michigan -- GO BLUE
After graduating from University of Michigan in 1975 with a degree in Psychology, I started working for the Internal Revenue Service where I remained until 1997.  I began as a Revenue Officer in the Collection division (yup, knocking on doors to collect delinquent taxes from individuals and businesses!)  Over the years, I had increasingly responsible management positions in the Collection division before eventually branching off into Information technology --still at the IRS.

I met my wonderful husband Chuck at the IRS.  We married in 1980 and now have three great kids and two grandchildren.

Shortly after starting at IRS, I continued going to school at night to work on my Masters in Business Administration from University of Michigan.  I got about half way done when I decided it was too much to handle all at once -- working full time,  being married, raising children and going to school.  So I never finished the MBA.  But I really enjoyed my 22 working years at IRS.  I did meaningful work with talented people who remain some of my closest friends to this day.

In 1997, I decided to make a change and quit the IRS.  At that point our oldest son was off to U of M, and the two youngest girls were still in middle school and high school.  During those next few years, i enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom and fully participated in all their school, athletic and musical activities.

I also started a website design business during this time.  In the course of that endeavor, I wanted to educate myself more about the idea of e-commerce which was still in its infancy.  So as a lark,  I started an online business in 2002 called The Little Chickadee and it's still operating today!

My husband retired in 2012 and we are enjoying it immensely.  We now split our time between Grosse Pointe and our cottage in northern Michigan. We also travel frequently to see family and friends all over the country.

I've enjoyed working on the planning committees for the 40th and 45th reunions, reconnecting with some really special classmates.  Facebook has been a fun way to reconnect with other 1971 classmates, too.

I look back very fondly on my GPN years and look forward to seeing as many of you as possible in September, 2016!
